Our School Story Project
Ideal for: Whole-school initiatives, curriculum focus weeks, or extended literacy projects
Format: Planned collaboratively with the school (half-day, full-day, or multi-session)
A unique, collaborative project in which pupils help create a bespoke picture book designed specifically for your school.
Working closely with staff, the project is shaped around your school’s ethos, values, or current curriculum focus. Children contribute ideas, themes, characters, messages and even the illustrations which are developed into a complete story that reflects what matters most to your school community.
The project can:
Celebrate your school’s values and identity
Link to a current topic, theme, or PSHE focus
Support wellbeing, inclusion, and pupil voice
Encourage creativity, discussion, and collaboration across classes
The outcome is a custom picture book created for your school, providing a lasting resource that can be shared, revisited, and celebrated long after the visit.
This project offers children a meaningful opportunity to see their ideas valued and transformed into a finished piece of work, while supporting key curriculum aims including reading, writing, spoken language, and personal development.
This length of this session is very flexible to the needs of the school but multiple sessions would be beneficial so that the learners can see the whole design, creating, publishing and printing process.
To support creativity and inclusion, I can prepare a simple story framework before the visit, providing a clear beginning, middle, and end for children to build upon. Alternatively, we can start from a blank canvas from day one, or anything in between.
Pupils can choose how they would like to take part — whether by developing the story as authors, adding detail, dialogue, and ideas, or by working as illustrators, creating artwork to bring the story to life.
This approach allows all children to contribute in a way that suits their strengths and interests, while developing collaboration, imagination, and confidence.
As part of the project, there is an option for the completed story to be professionally produced as a printed picture book. The cost of which could be made back by selling books to parents, for example.
The book will be written and published by Christopher Proudfoot, with a dedicated message inside recognising that the story was inspired by the ideas and illustrations of the school / class / pupils involved in the project. Children’s artwork is carefully remastered before print to ensure a print ready finish.
Schools have the option to purchase copies at a discounted rate to sell to parents, and the book can also be made available for pre-order or purchase via this website.
This ensures the project leaves behind a meaningful, lasting resource that celebrates pupil voice while maintaining professional publishing standards. It will also be available on the website indefinitely, be offered to bookshops to sell to ensure it’s message is spread far and wide.
As a bespoke service with many price altering factors, prices are on application. However, I endeavour to keep this and my other services as affordable as possible.
