Who I am.
Hello, I’m Christopher Proudfoot, a children’s author and qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant currently working in a SEND school.
I write stories that encourage creativity, empathy, and confidence, often exploring themes such as kindness, emotional wellbeing, environmental awareness, and navigating challenges like anxiety or bullying in age-appropriate ways. My writing is shaped by day-to-day classroom experience and a belief that stories can be a powerful tool for helping children understand themselves and the world around them.
Alongside writing, I offer author visits and creative writing workshops for primary schools. I understand that every school has its own values, priorities, and areas of focus, and I enjoy tailoring sessions to reflect what a school is working on at the time — whether that’s a curriculum topic, wellbeing focus, or wider school ethos.
Much of my work is inspired by a long-standing passion for the ocean and marine life, which often provides the setting for my stories. These ocean-based narratives allow children to explore important themes such as care for the environment, responsibility, resilience, and kindness in an engaging and accessible way.
I understand how busy school life can be, and I aim to make every visit as seamless as possible through clear communication, careful preparation, and flexible delivery. My sessions are inclusive, adaptable, and designed to fit comfortably within the school day.
I am the author of Ria the Anxious Hermit Crab, a picture book that gently explores anxiety and self-confidence through storytelling.
